SCHALLER
The
Schaller branch of First Cooperative Association
had five different elevator companies before
Farmers Grain Company took over in 1930. In
the fall of 1963, the directors of the Farmers
Grain Company made it known that their interests
in the elevator were for sale. Several meetings
were held to discuss the possibilities of starting
a coop elevator. In March of 1964, the former
Farmers Grain Company became known as the Schaller
Coop Elevator. Agland Coop came about in June
of 1974, when the Schaller Coop Elevator and
the Alta Elevator merged. Then on March 1st of 1997 Agland Coop became a part of First Cooperative Association.
The cement elevator was built in 1907, and had
a storage capacity of 42,000 bushels in sixteen
different bins. It was the largest elevator
along this railroad at that time. The railroad
was abandoned in 1975.
The feedmill at Schaller was built in 1966. It is currently used for bagged feed and seed storage. In 1978 a 5,000 bushel per hour leg, 10,000 bushel bin, and 35,000 bushel bin were erected. A 50,000 bushel bin was built in 1980, and then a 100,000 bushel bin was added in 1985. A NH3 bulk tank was placed in Schaller, in 1987. It has a 40 ton capacity and provisions to fill two nurse tanks at once. In 1993 a 100,000 bushel bin was built then another 300,000 bushel bin and 10 bushel leg were put up in 1997.
In August of 1998, a building, 30 ft. by 80
ft. was moved from Larrabee to Schaller. The
East half is heated for chemicals and shop,
and the West half is used for a warehouse. 2002 brought a new cardtrol to Schaller allowing fuel customers to purchase refined fuels in town at our pumps. In 2005 a 370,000 bushel bin was put up, Schaller is capable of holding 693,000 bushels of corn and 240,000 bushels of soybeans.
